About two years ago I was introduced to Neal, the producer and brainchild behind Unsung Heroes Productions. Our connection was immediate and went beyond our mutual love for charity and music.
In my blog “From Coal to Diamond,” I discussed my time at the “Jerome D. Diamond Centre” which is a school for children with emotional, educational, social and behavioural challenges. It is a service funded by Jewish Family and Child Services in Toronto. Although Neal never attended the school he and his family did take advantage of other offerings from JFCS. So, our bond was immediate.
On February 6th, 7th and 8th I will be performing in a musical revue; Barbara Pinchuk’s 5th Annual Unsung Heroes: Sing for Tomorrow. This production raises money for an amazing charity, Imagine a Cure for Leukemia. The show will be incredibly entertaining and the people involved are extraordinary.
Nara started Imagine a Cure for Leukemia in 2006. She and my wife have been friends for a very long time and I can say with certainty that she is one of the kindest, most genuine people I know. I have a ton of respect for her. Being involved in a musical revue that combines two of my passions, music and giving back, was a no brainer. I would support anything that she was involved in.
This may be a show filled with amateur performers but make no mistake the talent is exceptional. From Joanna and Naomi who sing like angels to Aaron and Jay who could easily work in a Las Vegas piano bar swooning guests with their stunning vibrato. Robby and Mark, the brothers ‘W,’ and Dayna bring their incredible rock and roll vocals with newcomers Skylar, Lindsay and Jaime who all shine. Jeremy and Carly are incredible too. They make you laugh and wow you with their ability to be in character. Whereas Marnie, Gord and Jack provide comic relief that is only to be rivalled by Deena’s quick wit and stage presence. If you like show tunes this show is for you.
I could go on about the extraordinary talent in the show but you will have to come and see for yourself. This is a show filled with good people doing amazing things both on and off the stage.
Come, buy a ticket and help us make a difference in someone else’s life.
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy new year!
See you at the show.
